This project brief was to collaboratively design a 2-in-1 hair styler that could hinge and change its shape from a traditional hair dryer to a hair styler that could utilize a different set of accessories. My role was to support the UK and US teams with CAD development, design & test new aspects and provide insights and feedback to help improve the product as well as the airflow performance. I was on this project from R&D handover all the way through to mass production.
Contract Designer 2021 - 2022
The hinge design was complex and eventually required sealing along with good tolerances to prevent wobble. The UI button assembly had to be slimed down to allow for more airflow through the handle and the open areas throughout the system had to be monitored to avoid extreme bottlenecks. I also worked closely with the industrial design teams and the China teams to ensure the latest changes were captured in the General Assembly
A range of accessories were designed alongside the main unit. I was tasked with accessory attachment design and general design for manufacture on the concentrator, curlers and brushes
